Yuck!

So when is this pregnancy glow, euphoria, I'm-suppose-to-love-being-pregnant feeling suppose to start? The sight (and smell) of any food other than rice, banana pudding, Sprite, and Ginger Ale makes me want to die! Poor Ben experienced the first wraths of pregnancy when he used the "wrong kind" of black pepper when cooking. Don't ask me what the wrong kind is....just know that it was wrong!

And what's worse is that pregnancy brain has arrived. I say words backwards, drop things, trip over everything, and CRY at a moment's notice. I had a breakdown in Barnes and Noble the other day while reading part of a baby journal. I even cried while watching Miss America being crowned.

It's going to get better, right?

First pictures

Just a quick post...we had really good news on Wed. Even though it's early, the everything looks good and the baby is growing well! Amanda is healthy, albeit a little cranky sometimes, and always tired!

The doc said the picture of the baby looks like a tiger's eye. Amanda thinks it's because he's an LSU fan. I think he it said because he recognized that I have the "Eye of the Tiger" just like Rocky Balboa...only lawyer-like instead of boxer-like.

Amanda says the baby looked more like PacMan than anything...hmmm. At 4.7mm, it's hard to tell who he looks like.

Doc also said that I could make some money with my donations, if need be. :)

Anyway, I've attached the pictures below. Enjoy!

P.S. We're at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend. Lots of snow! Should be fun.

Baby Stuff

Ben and I decided to hit Babies R Us just to get an idea of what stuff costs these days. We started with the car seat. Not too complicated. They pretty much all look the same. So why do they range in price from $99-$250? Next, we tried to decipher the stroller. There's the lighweight, the heavyweight, the jogger, and the travel system. What on earth? There was another couple there doing their registry and they were "further along" than we are, so we just picked the same stroller they did. Once they left the area, we tried to manipulate all the parts and gadgets- only took us about 15 minutes (yes, we have degrees...one of us has 3!). On to the crib. Seems the "new thing" is the convertible crib-goes from crib to full-size bed. Not sure if I believe the hype. Oh, we also checked out bouncey seats. Ben likes the fully motorized one that does circles, makes womb sounds, and you can hook a mp3 player up to it (no lie). I think the plastic one with a spring will do just fine. Finally, we strolled through the bedding and clothing. Here's where our decision NOT to know the sex of the baby will be tested to the limits! Choosing baby-neutral stuff isn't near as fun as the choosing the jungle animals or lady bugs!

I think I'd almost rather take the bar again...

OK, NOT REALLY!

But, we're just barely starting out on this whole pregnancy thing and WOW is there a lot or worrying and waiting or what???

One thing this whole pregnancy thing has going for it: No Essays on Oil and Gas Law. I think that's made up law just to torment Texas Lawyers anyway!

So next week is the first Dr. Appt. and after that we head to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival for some celebrity watching and movie screening. Sounds like fun, huh?

Take care and keep sending on the good wishes!

Names, Names, Names...

So Amanda and I have decided, for now, and I'm pretty sure that we'll stick with it, not to know the sex of the baby until it pops out. Apparently grandparents don't like that - it's hard to overbuy and spoil kids if you don't know whether to get them pink or blue! But, I don't mind that much because green is my favorite color anyway - and I'm pretty sure that preference will get passed down genetically to little Mitchell.

Anyway, this morning, Amanda and I were flipping through a book and looking at websites for possible baby names. This has become a pretty popular hobby judging by the number of websites out there. It's hard to decide on which names you like - so many choices and so few slots for each kid. It's also painfully obvious that celebrities have extremely weird tastes in names-- very weird - Coco or Apple anyone?

So, we're making a short list of possible names that I'm positive will change 100 times over the next several months, but at least it's fun to think about. Sorry, we're keeping it secret for now and no amount of bribes gets your name to the top (This means you, Butch!).

Oh....

One More Thing!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA! (And Ruby)

We love you!!!

Waiting...

It seems like it's taking forever for the 16th to get here...That's when we see the doc and get a chance at the first ultrasound!

And, despite what anybody says, I'm pretty positive it's going to be a boy. The girl quota for that generation of Mitchell's has already been met!

It's Going to be a Great Year!

The above words came from my mom when I gave her the good news. And I can't think of a better way to say it! Just as most people who blog, I am starting this to communicate with friends and family across the country. The only thing Ben and I aren't excited about is being in Texas and unable to share this time with all of you! I always thought I would be near my best friends, sister, sisters-in-law, and parents when this happened. So I'm hoping this blog will connect us as much as possible. Oh my gosh...I'm having a baby!

Oh...my first doctor's appointment is January 16!
